JOB SUMMARY: 

The School Psychologist enhances student success by implementing and coordinating the community school strategy. This role involves connecting community resources to the school and supporting students' academic and behavioral progress. The psychologist collaborates with students, staff, and families to identify barriers to success and develops systems to improve attendance, reduce behavioral issues, boost achievement, and foster family and community engagement.

 

LOCATION: Sandyview Learning Center

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Co-lead the enhancement of the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) through involvement in early intervention and prevention.
• Co-lead the School Leadership Teams to identify needs, set priorities, and coordinate strategy for school improvement.
• Consults with staff, parents, and students as needed to help support social-emotional needs, instruction, and learning needs.
• Conducts investigations, assessments, and consultations to identify appropriate supports and services for students.
• Analyzes data and prepares recommendations for interventions, referrals, involvement of parents and teachers, etc.
• Conducts or participates in professional development opportunities.
• Completes and maintains appropriate records, reports, and procedures including, but not limited to, protocols, intervention progress, and behavioral data.
• Participates in parent/teacher conferences as appropriate.
• Consults, counsels, and collaborates with parents, school personnel, students, and appropriate community agencies regarding behavioral, academic, and other relevant educational information acquired in a multi-tiered system of support.
• Work with school leadership to maintain a focus on results and to track progress using SWIS data, EWIs, etc.
• Understands and supports the implementation of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS).
• Conduct screenings and assessments to determine the needs of students and address/connect them to appropriate interventions, supports, and programs.
• Participates in non-violent crisis intervention and responds to escalated situations as needed.
• Serve as a point person for agencies and programs interested in partnering with the school, and help to broker new partnerships that are aligned with school goals and needs.
• Engage with students or in small groups to address behavioral needs and conduct small groups to teach skills for success.
• Experience creating and implementing tier III behavioral interventions such as Functional Behavioral Analysis and Positive Behavior Support Plans.
• Maintains a professional personal appearance.
• Adheres to district health and safety procedures.
• Travels to meet job requirements.
• Maintains and promotes confidentiality.
• Adheres to board policies.

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:  

• Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economics and ability backgrounds.
• Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
• Participate in appropriate professional activities.
• Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
• Completes Medicaid C4S billing through MiPSE.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Applicant must have a Masters Degree or higher
• Certified Michigan School Psychologist who is certified by the Michigan Department of Education or who is fully licensed.  Those with a Preliminary School Psychologist Certification are encouraged to apply.
• Work collaboratively with other district student services staff, administrators, students, parents, and school staff. 
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Must have the proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
• Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
• Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology. (PowerSchool and MiPSE)

REPORTS TO:  Director of Student Service 

 

START DATE: 2024-25 School Year or 2025-26 School Year 

 

SALARY RANGE: Per HEA Master Agreement. Starting at $62,500 commensurate with experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds.
