Hamilton Community Schools has an opening for a full-time Maintenance Technician and invites hardworking self-motivated individuals to apply for this position. 

 

 

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Technician
REPORTS TO: Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Nonexempt
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT: Hamilton Custodial/Maintenance Association (HCMA)
PAY SCALE: Per Collective Bargaining Agreement ($18.61/hr - $28.98/hr).  Additional rates will be included based on license/certification.

 

JOB SUMMARY:
Provides for the general maintenance of the facilities and equipment for the District and reports to the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • 18 years of age;
  • High school diploma or GED required, college or trade school classes preferred;
  • Driver license;
  • Detail-oriented - Ability to pay attention to the minute details of a project or task
  • Five (5) years of proven experience in general facility maintenance is preferred;
  • One or more licenses in electrical, plumbing, or mechanical trade preferred;
  • Desired certifications/licenses:
    • Pool operator
    • Water operator
    • Pesticide applicator
    • Boiler operator
    • 16-hour O&M Asbestos training
  • Possess and maintain the appropriate licenses/certifications required to carry out specific job duties and responsibilities;
  • Possess good habits, character, and attendance records;
  • Be neat in appearance;
  • Be able to speak, read and write at a level of proficiency that permits satisfactory job performance;
  • Ability to read blueprint reading and schematic interpretation skills;
  • Be capable and demonstrate the establishment and maintenance of harmonious effective relationships with staff, supervisors, and co-workers;
  • Ability to communicate in both written and spoken English language
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively independently and with others to achieve assigned tasks and projects;
  • Possess experience in maintenance work to carry out the assigned duties preferred;
  • Possess a willingness to learn new job skills, new processes, technology, or techniques

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 
The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by a person in this position. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties that may be performed by such a person.

  • HVAC
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and overhaul HVAC;
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, building management systems;
    • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems and building exteriors;
    • Grease and oil AHUs, pumps, equipment; change filters as scheduled;
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot all boiler systems
  • Plumbing
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and overhaul plumbing systems;
    • Install pumps, controllers, heads, and valves on sprinkling systems
  • Electrical
    • Install lighting systems and electrical outlets;
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot all electrical systems, motors, etc.;
    • Install wiring/cabling systems for networks, controls, audio/visual equipment, etc.
  • Roofs
    • Find and repair roof leaks;
    • Perform preventative maintenance roofing systems
  • Doors/Windows
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, all door and window hardware;
    • Replace glass in window and door systems
  • Carpentry
    • Remodel areas by constructing walls, installing doors, windows, drop ceilings, painting, light masonry, etc.;
    • Repair or assemble furniture, and scoreboards;
    • Install bulletin boards, marker boards, television monitors, food service equipment, etc.;
    • Repair or replace ceramic tile on walls and floors;
    • Repair or replace brick and plaster walls;
    • Cabinetry and wood crafting construction and installation
  • General Maintenance
    • Weld, braze or soldering of piping and equipment;
    • Operate power tools, tractors;
    • Form and pour concrete sidewalks and flatwork;
    • Install and repair playground equipment and fencing;
    • Assist in set up or moving for school, athletic, or community events;
    • Follow safety procedures and corrects unsafe conditions for students and staff;
    • Maintain and monitor sewage lagoons;
    • Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, maintenance and custodial equipment
  • Other functions Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
    • Adhere to all policies of the District.
    • Follow local, state, and OSHA regulations;
    • Maintain a clean and safe work area;
    • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, supervisors, administrators, and school community members;
    • Promptly return phone calls and answer emails;
    • Participate in appropriate professional activities/training when necessary;
    • Performs all other duties assigned by the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Duties performed typically in, but not limited to the maintenance department and in schools
throughout the District:

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms;
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
  • Frequently required to stand and walk;
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl;
  • Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds. Occasional lifting of equipment weighing up to approximately 75 pounds may be required;
  • The environment also exposes the employee to potentially hazardous substances;
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus;
  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards
