HVAC CTE Teacher - .4 FTE 

JOB SUMMARY: 

Hamilton Community Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced HVAC Instructor to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program starting in the 2024-2025 school year. We are a high school committed to providing our students with the real-world skills and knowledge they need to succeed in high-demand careers, and HVAC is a field with incredible growth potential in Michigan.  Under the supervision of the building principal, educators plan, organize, and implement an appropriate instructional program that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. 

 

LOCATION: Hamilton High School

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and deliver engaging and rigorous HVAC coursework aligned with Michigan CTE standards.
  • Utilize hands-on learning experiences, including lab activities and work-based learning opportunities, to equip students with the technical skills needed for success in the HVAC industry.
  • Infuse leadership development within instruction.
  • Inspire and motivate students to explore career paths in HVAC, including installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment including industry and lab safety.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school.
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies and school regulations.
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities.
  • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare classroom and/or learning environment for all learning opportunities. 
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities. 
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance and development using formative and summative assessments.
  • Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments.
  • Work with or understanding of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
  • Work with or understanding of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS).
  • Previous work with or understanding of Standards-Based Grading.  

Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Meeting CTE state and federal reporting and compliance requirements. This includes but is not limited to completing state-level reporting and monitoring requirements (e.g. graduate follow-up calls and surveys) for CTE teachers.
  • Collaborate with other CTE instructors and school leaders to ensure a seamless and effective learning experience for students.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in HVAC technology.
  • When possible, attend Professional Development and other networking opportunities with outside programs in the area including annual industry-specific PD.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economics and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

    • Valid MI Standard CTE teaching certification with an endorsement in Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration (CIP 47.0201) or related area, OR
    • Annual Career Authorization (ACA) with two years (4,000 hours) of recent and relevant work experience in the HVAC industry, AND
    • Bachelor's degree in HVAC, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver effective instruction in a technical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Passion for CTE education and a commitment to student success.
  • High degree of knowledge in teaching at the secondary level.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Must have the ability and proven ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis.
  • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.
  • Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state.

REPORTS TO:  Building Principal

 

START DATE: 2024-2025 School Year

 

SALARY RANGE (Prorated According to FTE): Per HEA Master Agreement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms with good dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Normal hearing and vision (with or without corrective lenses).
